The 120' Staysall schooner was built in 1906 for Louis Reneau a prominent French businessman and inventor of the Renault automobile. In 1937, the yacht was sold to Italian businessman Count Caleazzo Ciano of Livorno, Italy, who married Mussolini's daughter, Edda. Ciano was killed in 1944 and the yacht had a new owner, El Duce, Benito Mussolini. Mussolini and his mistress were killed in 1945 and the yacht made its way to America. The Chryseis has appeared in four movies, one being Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang.

In 1998, it was purchased and underwent a total renovation to include eleven staterooms with ensuite bathrooms which include jacuzzi bathtubs with showers.
